 Once they would have faced the horrific fate of being burned at the stake. Now the witches of America are staging a remarkable high profile comeback , as these photographs demonstrate. Taken in a hall owned by the Knights of St Columbus - complete with pictures of the Pope and crucifixes - they show dozens of modern witches taking part in a ritual to bring down energy for Halloween - or rather, for the Wiccan's holy day Samhain.
